God’s plans for His people are always good. He visits his people and fulfills promises. No plan of God will ever be thwarted. No promise of God will ever go unfulfilled. His good promises made to Israel in our passage were ultimately fulfilled when he visited them in the person of Jesus Christ. In Luke 1:68, Zechariah says, “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited us and redeemed his people.” God in Jesus fulfilled his promise to visit his people and redeem them bringing them into an eternal relationship with himself. He fulfilled the promise many years after the promise was made. God, likewise, as he did for Israel, has promised us many good things. In the interim where life is hard, and things seemingly suggest that the promises will not be fulfilled, we must find peace in the promises because we trust the promise maker.
Reflection
A promise is trustworthy only when the promise maker is trustworthy. God has proven that he is a trustworthy promise-maker by fulfilling the past promises he has made. We can, therefore, trust that he will take care of us in this life, no matter how it may seem, and will ultimately bring us into heavenly bliss when the time is right in his sight.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for being a faithful promise keeping God. Help me to rest in your promises even when life is bleak and tough. Increase my understanding of your faithful promise keeping nature so that I might truly trust your promises.
