Like we already underlined yesterday, when God’s people are celebrating Him, they always attach the purpose to it. Our text is the second reason Mary declares that she will celebrate God. In verse 49, Mary is committed to praising God because of the great things He has done for her. She expresses this by saying that God is the mighty one. Through this, she is celebrating God’s power. She is testifying that God alone is all powerful. Since He is all powerful, only He is able to do great things. God alone is truly powerful enough to do great things. There is nothing that happens on earth that He has not permitted. The Psalmist declares that God is mightier than any other being (Psalm 89:8–9). Through this exposition of who God is and what He is able to do, we are all invited to trust God. We are also invited to give credit to God for the great things that happen in our lives, our community, and our churches.
Reflection
Mary’s declaration in verse 49 reminds us that true praise flows from recognizing God’s mighty works in our lives. As she celebrates the “Mighty One” for the great things He has done, she testifies that God alone holds all power and authority, and nothing occurs outside His allowance. This truth invites us to respond with the same trust and gratitude—acknowledging His strength in our personal stories, in our communities, and in the life of the Church. When we intentionally give God the credit for every blessing and victory, our praise becomes deeper, more sincere, and firmly rooted in the confidence that the One who is mightier than all continues to work powerfully on our behalf.
Prayer
Praise God for the great things He is doing in your life.
