In this text we find two sisters expressing hospitality to Jesus in different ways. Martha is busy with preparations—serving, cleaning, organizing, while Mary simply sits at Jesus’ feet, listening. Martha becomes frustrated, feeling the weight of service alone, but Jesus gently reminds her that while service is good, being present with Him is better. Hospitality is not just about offering food or a tidy home—it’s about offering yourself. It's not about impressing guests with perfection but welcoming them with genuine attention and love. Mary’s posture teaches us that true hospitality begins with presence—slowing down to make space for relationship, for listening, and for honoring the person in front of us. Take time to be present, to listen, and to truly connect with people as act of hospitality. Like Mary, choose “what is better”—the kind of hospitality that puts people before tasks, and Jesus at the center.
