Content
The Israelites considered the recitation of this passage to be one of their sacred responsibilities. It was also cited by Jesus as the greatest commandment. Humanly speaking it seems impossible to love God 24/7, but we are commanded to do so with our total being. This is a call for complete dependence on Him because with our own strength, we cannot love God. It is a call for intentional daily growth in our love for God. To love God with our total being means understanding the love that He has for us so that in times of pain and affliction, we don’t give up. We cannot love someone we do not know, so we must grow in our knowledge of Him to be able to love Him completely. We each struggle with our love for God and love for the world. But if we must enjoy the love with which Christ Loves us, we must be ready to love Him completely too.
Reflection
God deserves all of our love.

Ask God to enable you love Him completely.
