Abraham is pleading for some three visitors to stay at his home and be refreshed before moving on. It is not clear whether Abraham knew that the three men were angels before welcoming them into his home. But the emphasis is on his hospitable attitude towards the men. Hospitality was a cultural way of life for the people in those days. Being hospitable was a sign of respect and a way to provide comfort to travelers. This was also a cultural value for many African societies, which is fast disappearing. The strangers Abraham welcomed turned to be the angels of the Lord (Abraham’s divine connection). What is your attitude towards strangers that come to your house? We are called upon in Hebrews 13:2 not to neglect hospitality because by so doing, some have entertained angels unawares. It could be one designed to blessed, so don’t neglect strangers.
