Content
We often take the mercies of God for granted. This is evident when we sin and do not confess our sins, assuming that God will forgive us because He is gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love (103:8). For sure, God is gracious and merciful yet He is a consuming fire who will not allow any sin go unpunished (Pro 11:21; Rom 2:5-6). The fear of God should motivate us to confess our sins to Him. The fear of God should also motivate us to stay away from sin. If we do not fear him for what he can do to us, then we have not understood who he is. Confess not for fear of punishment but for fear of God’s holiness. Have a deeper reverence for God. This will ultimately result in an intentional fight against sin and quick repentance from it when you miss the mark of holiness.
Reflection
A harden heart does not fear God. And a lack of fear for God is displayed in a life of unrepentant willful sinning.
Prayer
Ask God to give you the right fear for him.
