This section of Scripture describes the life that pleases God. The life that please Him is the life that is lived in Him. On top of the list of the virtues to uphold in order to live a life that pleases the Lord is love. The apostle says that love must be genuine. If love is not sincere, it is not real love but pretense. The whole conduct of believers should be wrapped in love. when we fail to love fellow Christians with sincere love, it makes the world to doubt our love for God (1 John 4:19-20). With sincere love, our hatred for evil will increase and we will desire only good for others. The evil, hatred, backstabbing and more atrocities are committed in the society and even in the church because there is lack of sincere love. Let us submit to God so that we can learn sincere love from him. True love for one another is a sign that we honor others above ourselves.
Reflection
When we truly let God shape our hearts, our lives begin to reflect the kind of love He desires—real, sincere, and free from pretense. This passage reminds us that genuine love is the foundation of a life that pleases Him, because without it, everything else falls short. When our love is honest, it naturally turns us away from evil and moves us to seek good for others. But when love is missing, even among believers, it creates room for hurt, division, and a poor witness to the world. As we submit to God and learn from His perfect love, we grow in honoring others above ourselves and living in a way that truly reflects Him.
Prayer
Depend on God’s love to able to show sincere love to others.
