Jesus, the good shepherd, gives eternal life to his sheep. When you are a sheep of Jesus, no wolf, lion, or bear in the form of demons, sickness, false teachers, or evil people can tear you down. The promise of eternal life tells us that a sheep of Christ has eternal protection from the good shepherd. This eternal protection is confirmed in the statement, "no one will snatch them out of my hand." No one can snatch a sheep of Christ from the hands of the good shepherd.

If wicked people, demons, or Satan torment and kill a sheep of Jesus, they have not snatched him out of the hands of Jesus. They have brought him into the eternal arms of Jesus, where he will enjoy eternal life with Jesus forever. The knowledge that the presence of Jesus is the glorious place of eternal life moved the apostle Paul to say, "for to me to live is Christ and to die is gain... My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better" (Phil. 1:21).

A child of God in life and in death has eternal life because physical expiration only brings him into the presence of his Lord and master, where there is life eternal.

Jesus's statement should give us peace in our hearts. We should not live in fear of death or disaster. We should live with the peaceful awareness that we have obtained a life that can never be lost because it is a gift from the one who has not only given us life but also preserved it. He will preserve us till the end since he says no one can snatch us from his hand. His grip on us is too tight for anyone to release.
