Hospitality is more than setting a table or opening a home. It is a spiritual discipline, a reflection of God’s open heart toward humanity. In a world that often teaches us to protect our time, space, and resources, biblical hospitality calls us to live counter-culturally—opening our lives to others, especially those in need. Peter’s instruction in 1 Peter 4:9 was given to believers who were facing trials and persecution. Yet even in difficult times, they were reminded not only to show hospitality but to do so without grumbling. This points us to the deeper heart of hospitality: not reluctant duty, but joyful service. Today, ask yourself: Am I welcoming others with joy, or merely out of obligation? It might be as simple as inviting someone for a meal, offering a listening ear, or showing kindness to a stranger. True hospitality starts with a heart that sees people not as interruptions but as opportunities to love like Christ.
Reflection
Hospitality entails welcoming with a willing heart.
Prayer
Ask God for a cheerful heart for hospitality without grumbling.
