Content
Giving of material things to help other members of the church was a culture of the early church as seen in Acts 2:45. Their giving was motivated by their faith in God and their love for each other. And helping is one of the gifts listed by Paul in 1 Cor 12:28. In respect to the supreme position of love in the use of all these spiritual gifts, giving up of all material possessions that is not motivated by love amounts to nothing. We live in a world where people want to be celebrated for donating their material things to the poor. Paul is teaching here that whether you donate everything that belongs to you to meet needs, if this is not done in love, it is mere waste of time.
