The apostle commands the Christians to put on virtues that are an indication of their new life in Christ. The reason for them to put on these qualities is that they have been chosen by God. These great Christian virtues: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience and forgiveness will reduce quarrels in the community of believers. Though all these virtues are manifestations of love, Paul chose to mention love differently as what binds all these virtues together. To bind means to make secured by tying. Love is like an upper garment which completes and keeps together the rest of the virtues. Without love, they would be loose and disconnected. If we are truly justified as assumed by John in verse 12, the Holy Spirit will enable us put on these virtues bound by the love of perfectness.
Reflection
The cords of true love cannot be broken.
Prayer
Ask God to bind all the Christian virtues in your life with love. Pray for the CBC: Trust God to provide for all the projects of the CBCWD.
