Ephesians 5:3 calls us to live in a way that reflects our purity in Christ. One of the key areas in which we need to exercise vigilance is our thoughts. Immoral thoughts, if left unchecked, can lead us down a path of sin. To maintain a pure heart, we must intentionally avoid allowing immoral thoughts to take root in our minds. Paul instructs believers in Ephesians 5:3 that “there be no hint of sexual immorality” among them. This applies not only to actions but to our thoughts and words as well. Our hearts are the wellspring of our actions, and if we allow impure thoughts to linger, they can lead to sin. Practice taking every thought captive and examining the motives behind your thoughts. If you notice immoral thoughts entering your mind, immediately redirect them by meditating on Scripture or praying for God’s strength. Seek to fill your mind with things that honor God and cultivate purity.
