When Jesus was born there came wise men from the east to pay Him homage. It’s not very clear who these wise men were because their name “magi” makes it difficult for them to be identified with precision. These men were moved by a star from the East to come to Bethlehem. Jesus was born at the time the world was in an eagerness of expectation. Men were waiting for God, that is why the coming of Jesus gathered people from the ends of the earth to His cradle. The wise men came with a great desire to worship He who was born king of the Jews as prophesy by Isaiah (60:6). The Gentiles did not hesitate to come and give honor to the Savior of the universe. Their hearts were stirred to worship Him and they came with gifts to the new born king. When we use the month of December to remember the story of the birth of Jesus, it should stir our hearts to worship Him.
Reflection
The story of the wise men reminds us that when Jesus was born, God stirred the hearts of people from far away to seek and worship Him. Even though the magi were not fully understood or clearly identified, their desire to follow the star and honor the newborn King shows how God draws willing hearts to Himself. Their journey and gifts reflect the eagerness and expectation the world felt as it waited for a Savior. As we remember the birth of Jesus in December, we too are invited to let our hearts be moved—just like theirs—to worship Him with reverence, gratitude, and a deep desire to honor the One who came to save all people.
Prayer
May God lead us through His Spirit this season to worship Him.
