Hospitality takes on deeper meaning when we remember who truly owns what we possess. In Leviticus 25:23, God reminds Israel that the land belongs to Him, and they are merely foreigners and strangers living in it. In Leviticus 19:34c, God finishes His command to love the foreigner with a strong reminder: “I am the Lord your God.” This divine identity reinforces that hospitality is not just a social expectation—it’s a spiritual responsibility. Like the Israelites, we are stewards, not owners, of what God has given us—our homes, our resources, our time. When we welcome others, especially those who are different or in need, we reflect the heart of a God who welcomes us, though we too are temporary residents on His earth. Hence, shift your mindset by remembering that everything you have is on loan from God. How can you use His gifts—your space, time, or table—to bless others? Is there someone who feels out of place whom you could include, invite, or assist?
Reflection
We are only stewards of God’s land and resources.
Prayer
Ask God to enable you continually see yourself as a stranger on earth.
