An enemy is defined as "an individual, group, or nation that is hostile, opposed, or actively seeks to injure or defeat another." For our purposes, we can limit the definition to an individual who is hostile to another. This means that mutual hostility does not have to exist between the two parties. It takes one person to decide that he or she hates another, and that person becomes their enemy. Every human being naturally hates God because we are naturally sinful and he is holy. His holiness is repulsive to the sin nature in our hearts. However, Jesus gave us his holy nature as God so that we might love God, thereby reconciling us to God. He did so by giving us his life. The life of the Christian grows daily into one that aligns with that of God, which is why Christians ought to grow in holiness.
Reflection
Our peace with God comes through the life of Jesus. He gave up his life for us and gave up the resurrected life to live in holiness.
Prayer
Pray that the Holy Spirit will quicken your understanding of who you are to God because of the work of Jesus Christ.
