Brotherly affection or love is love for the brethren (Heb 13:1). The word devoted can mean “cherishing one’s kindred,” “tenderly loving,” “kindly affectionate to.” Believers are members of the family of God. Devotion to love will enable a belonging spirit between them. When such a spirit is created there should be honor for one another. Honor is different from affection in that you can honor a person without any affection for him. Honor here talks about valuing or esteeming someone. Tribalism is one of the killers of true Christian brotherly affection. Many are inclined to love those from their earthly background, but we are challenged today to love brethren we are related to spiritually.
Reflection
Christ should be at the center of Christian love, not tribe.
Prayer
Ask God to take away tribalistic tendencies from you.
