Why do you mediate for peace between your friends, family members, children, etc.? One of the most striking and exemplary mediators for peace in the Bible is Moses. In our passage, Israel had turned their back on God, and God was ready to spill blood for it (32:10). Moses fell before God and implored him to relent from his anger for the sake of his name among the nations and his covenant to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Moses' prayer focuses on the damage God's action will cause to his reputation. He calls God to show mercy to these people for the sake of his great name. Moses was willing to have his blood spilled rather than see God dishonor his great name by killing Israel. A greater Moses (Deut. 18:18) comes in the person of Jesus Christ and offered his blood to be spilled on behalf of people who had turned their backs on God. He did this so that God might justly justify sinful people (Romans 3:25-26). He worked for peace between mankind and God with his blood so that God would be right to forgive sinners. The glory of God was his primary motivation for mediating peace between man and God. Christian mediators should have the glory of God as the primary motivator behind their quest for peace.
Reflection
Mediation should be done following the example of Jesus, the greater Moses, who was willing to die so that God be glorified.
Prayer
Ask God to make you an example of a good mediator for His glory. Prayer for the CBC: Trust God for great collaboration among leaders at all levels in the Health Services of the CBC.
