Submission to parental authority and obedience to parents are very important to God. Evidence for this is found in multiple commands in the Old and New Testaments to children to obey their parents. We already addressed this in our last devotional. But we are reiterating it because the Bible does the same.

Parents are gifts from God to guide children onto the right path in life. While you might currently not be a child in the sense that you are no longer directly under your parents' authority, you might be a parent. What you want to do as a parent is to help your child understand the value of the instruction you are giving them. The call for the child to hear and not forsake parental instruction means that the parents are intentionally instructing the child. Parents sometimes forget that their children are children. They tell a child something one time and assume that the child has understood it. Instruction and teaching are usually done repeatedly. Sometimes it takes a long time for even an adult to learn something, what more of a child?

As children of God, he patiently instructs us and teaches us through his word. He knows that if we leave the path he is leading us to, we will be ruined. He instructs us in the way of righteousness, which is lived by believing in Jesus Christ and seeking to live in the holiness in which he lived.
 Parents should also intentionally instruct their children toward a God-honoring, Christ-centered, Spirit-empowered, and Bible-based life, never giving up after multiple failed attempts.
