There are many activities that people carry out to appear religious, but just appearing religious does not please God, and He does not accept such. What He accepts as religious is the ability to exert positive influence on someone’s life. What this means is that genuine religion is a life-changing force. And the focus in this verse is the life of widows and orphans. These are a group of people often neglected or oppressed in most societies. A true expression of our religion is extending love to these people, and being pure before God. We live in a world where people want to care for the widows and orphans for fame. Such people do not care about their own purity before God. But God is calling on us today to take care of the widows and orphans as an expression of love, coming from our inner purity.
Reflection
Intentionally care for the vulnerable.
Prayer
Ask God for grace to visit the widows and orphans from a genuine place of love.
