This psalm is about David’s repentance after he was rebuked by Prophet Nathan for committing adultery with Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11-12). David comes broken before God pleading for mercy. He pleads for God to blot out his transgression not because he came pleading but because of God’s abundant mercy. He seeks purification as he pleads on God to wash him. David takes responsibility of his sins by recognizing that the sin was ultimately against God and needed His mercy. We all need God’s mercy for our lives so we must be broken in confession. We must not come to God with excuses or reasons why we sin but in complete brokenness acknowledging that we have sin against God. Let us take responsibility for our sins and appeal to God’s mercy and compassion.
Reflection
Brokenness over sins leads to repentance.
Prayer
Ask for humility to help you acknowledge yours sins and seeking for His mercy.
