In the song Mary sang, she testifies that her soul magnifies the Lord (v. 46). This statement speaks of her disposition to celebrate God. Just like many hymns in the Psalms, she will unveil the reason for praising God. In verse 48, she is praising God because He decided to use a woman to bless His people. He has decided to use a very humble woman from a background that none would have expected to be a blessing to all generations (1 Cor 1:26- 29). When Mary says that "from now on all generations will call her blessed," she is pointing to the fact that all generations will recognize that through her came the son of promise who will be a blessing to all generations. She is not saying that all generations will worship her but that all generations will never talk about Jesus Christ without mentioning the virgin birth, thus talking about her. It is unfortunate that many people have instead decided to worship the mother and have forgotten about the son. Even Mary, in her song, called Jesus her savior (v. 47). She was just a vessel that God used to bless His people.
Reflection
Mary’s song reminds me that God often chooses the humble and overlooked to accomplish His greatest work. Her soul magnifies the Lord not because of her own status, but because God chose to use her—a simple, humble woman—as a vessel to bring the Savior into the world. Her reflection points not to her own greatness, but to God’s faithfulness and power. Mary never sought worship; instead, she openly acknowledged her need for a Savior. Her example challenges me to celebrate God’s work in my life without seeking credit, remembering that any blessing I bring to others is because of His grace, not my merit. Through Mary, I’m reminded to keep the focus on Jesus, the true source of blessing for every generation.
Prayer
Praise God for His impartiality in blessing His people.
