god liberated Israel from slavery in Egypt and Israel was given laws that were to guide them as they lived in the land. One of these laws was their attitude towards the strangers that lived amongst them. They were to treat strangers with kindness, respect and justice. They were not to do them any wrong because they too were foreigners in Egypt (Exo 22:21). If you have experienced hardship in a strange land you would be kind to strangers. God’s principle is that our experiences should rather cause us to be compassionate toward strangers. Who are the “foreigners” in your context—those who feel out of place, unknown, or unseen? It could be someone new in your community, someone from a different culture, or even someone on the margins of your church. Extend a hand. Invite them in. Listen to their story. Let your hospitality reflect God’s command to love the outsider as your own—because once, we too were outsiders welcomed by grace.
Reflection
God’s commands must be obeyed.
Prayer
Trust God to obey His commands and treat strangers with kindness.
