The passage describes how David sent messengers to Nabal asking for provisions for the protecting his men in the wilderness. This was a request for hospitality as a customary practice. But Nabal, as his name means “fool”, did not respond with favor. David was provoked to anger when the matter was reported to him, and he planned to destroy Nabal’s home. But Abigail intervenes to avert disaster by taking matters into her hands and rushing to meet David with provisions for his men. Abigail appeased David and prevented him from carrying out his plan of vengeance. When someone seeks help from us, it might not be because of a lack, but just God’s way to test our hospitality. It is better to share the little we have because it might just be a way of preventing danger to your life and family.
Reflection
Your hospitality can save you from danger.
Prayer
Ask God to help you prevent danger from your family by being hospitable today and always.
